Since it became an indispensable tool for understanding human history, biblical archeology has made discoveries that only reinforce the veracity of biblical accounts, such as the existence of the Pool of Siloam, recorded in the New Testament.

The record in the book of John tells the story of a man born blind, who, upon encountering Jesus, was blessed with a miracle. “Then he said to him, ‘Go wash in the pool of Siloam’ (which means ‘sent’). The man went and washed and came back seeing,” says verse 7 of chapter 9.

Archaeologists had already discovered the physical existence of the tank, but part of it had been covered up for 2,000 years, according to information from Fox News. Now, this section, made up of eight steps that go down to the place where the dammed water was, has been excavated and opened to the public.

For Ze’ev Orenstein, director of International Affairs at the City of David Foundation, “these ongoing excavations within the City of David, especially the Pool of Siloam and the Pilgrimage Route, are one of the greatest confirmations of this heritage and the bond of millennia that Jews and Christians have with Jerusalem.”

The City of David is located in Jerusalem, Israel, and is an important region for biblical and global archeology. The discoveries at the site, according to Orenstein, are not precious “just as a matter of faith, but as a matter of fact.”

World history

For Orenstein, the region constitutes an archaeological belt that records much of the history involving two of humanity’s largest religions, Christianity and Judaism.

“The half mile that passes through the City of David, from the Pool of Siloam in the south, continuing along the Pilgrimage Route, to the Western Steps of the Western Wall, Southern Steps and Temple Mount, represents the most significant half mile of the planet,” he said.

“There is no half mile anywhere on Earth that means more than the half mile that is the City of David,” concludes The specialist. Check out images below:
