A previously unknown story by the famous American writer has just been published in The Strand magazine after being discovered, by chance, in an old notebook of the author.

A surprising discovery. While visiting the Library of Congress in Washington, the magazine’s editor-in-chief The StrandAndrew F. Gulli, made an impressive find.

Originally coming there to study the works of writer James M. Cain, the journalist took the opportunity to take a look at the works of Truman Capote. It was then that he discovered a small red notebook, inside which there was an unpublished text by the American author, never before revealed to the general public.

“In that red notebook, there was a short story handwritten by Truman Capote. I couldn’t believe it because I researched his works many years ago, and I didn’t believe it. not found,” he told CNN.

After a long process of deciphering the text, written in pencil with a handwriting that was “very difficult to read”, this story, called Another Day in Paradise, was finally published this Friday in The Strand magazine.

The novella chronicles a “day in the life” of an unhappy American expat, Iris Greentree, who ends up in Sicily after being persuaded to spend all her savings on a picturesque villa by an attractive man who subsequently leaves her alone.

Born in New Orleans in 1924 and died in 1984 at the age of 59, the American writer and novelist Truman Capote became known to the general public thanks to his two most famous works: Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1958), adapted for the screen with Audrey Hepburn, and In Cold Blood, released in 1966.
