Guest of the 8 p.m. news on TF1 and France 2, President Emmanuel Macron estimated Sunday evening that France was doing “its part” in terms of welcoming migrants, in response to Pope Francis who had spoken in recent days in Marseille very tough on this subject with regard to European leaders.
“The Pope is right to call for this surge against indifference”, but “we French, we are doing our part”, declared the President of the Republic on 8 p.m. on TF1 and France 2. “We cannot welcome all the misery in the world,” he added, using the famous phrase of former socialist Prime Minister Michel Rocard. He also assured that “the Italians should not be left alone”. “We must have a consistent approach with the countries of origin. Europe must play as a group,” he added.
Also questioned about the price of fuel, Macron announced that he would give up selling at a loss and asked distributors to sell “at cost”. He also mentioned new aid for the most modest, going up to “100 euros per vehicle per year”. On food prices, he said he wanted “an agreement on the moderation of margins”.
