The monetary reward did not compel students to read the curriculum

by time news

Before the start of each semester, college professors give their students the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the curriculum of their course.

And to their great disappointment, in the overwhelming majority of cases, their wards do not read these programs. That’s why Kenyon Wilson, assistant dean of the performing arts department at the University of Tennessee, decided to play a little game with his students. At the end of the curriculum, he placed an ad in which he offered the first student who read it a $ 50 bonus. It was possible to find a 50-dollar bill in one of the cells of the locker – the cell number and the code for opening it were attached.

But none of the 70 students in his course ever took advantage of the offer. “Today I opened the cell myself and found a bill that had not been taken by anyone,” Wilson wrote on his Twitter page.

Wilson says he has no intention of repeating his experiment next semester, but other professors may decide to follow his path. And he hopes that the students who have learned about his “game” will begin to read the curricula of all courses.
