Pope Francis sent a blessing to the family of the plastic artist Fernando Botero, after a particular request made by his daughter, Lina Botero, who sent him a recorded message, through a local journalist.

“Holy Father, I ask you to please pray for my father Fernando Botero, who died last September 15. For his wife too, Sophia Vari, who left us just four months ago after a terrible cancer, and for us, her family, who carry this great pain in our hearts,” cried Lina Botero.

The message was recorded and made known to the Pope by Colombian journalist Néstor Pongutá, who was part of the delegation that accompanied the Holy Father on his recent trip to Marseille, France.

Francisco watched the video with the message of the painter and sculptor who died in Monaco, at the age of 91, as a result of a respiratory condition.

“A blessing to all and I pray for those intentions, thank you,” the Supreme Pontiff responded to the request made by Botero’s daughter.

Meanwhile, in Bogotá, the third day of the burning chamber for Botero’s coffin took place this Sunday, in the National Capitol.

A religious ceremony is planned for Monday in the Primate Cathedral, which is expected to be attended by the president, Gustavo Petro, who was absent the previous Friday, during the arrival of the body of the Antioquian artist to the Elliptical Hall of the Capitol.

In the afternoon, Botero’s body will be taken to Medellín, where it will remain until Thursday when his ashes are sent to Pietrasanta (Italy).
