Shocking documentation: A young woman put her baby in a garbage bag – and threw it in the trash

Six hours after the incident, three people passing by heard crying, and found the newborn inside the container. The 18-year-old claimed to police she did not know she was pregnant, and when a girl threw it in the trash

A shocking video from security cameras caught an 18-year-old woman throwing her newborn baby in the trash can in New Mexico – and a few hours later he is alive by three people who passed by.

Documentation from security cameras

Alexis Avila is seen in the documentation arriving at the trash can on North Thorpe Street in Hobbes around 2:00 a.m. Friday, removing a bag of black trash from her car and throwing it in a container.

Six hours later, three people arrived at the scene and rummaged in the trash. They spotted a black bag and some movement inside, and when they looked inside they found the baby. One of the women quickly wrapped the newborn and took him to the truck, and one of the men immediately called the authorities.

The man who found the baby provided police that he, his girlfriend and another friend got into the bin when they thought they heard crying. He said he found the baby with the umbilical cord still attached to his body – and immediately called police.

A police statement on the incident said: “Upon the arrival of the police officers, they provided assistance to the newborn child, and the baby was transferred to a local hospital. Afterwards, he was transferred to Lubuck Hospital for further treatment in the pediatric ward.” It was also reported that the baby was in a stable condition.

Law enforcement officials opened an investigation, and were able to obtain the surveillance footage, and later located Avila’s vehicle.

Police arrived at Avila’s home, where her parents opened the door – and told forces she was asleep and had been suffering from abdominal pain for the past week, which prevented her from getting to school and work.

The young woman was taken to the police station, where she said she suffered from abdominal pain and even visited the doctor on January 6, who told her the news that she was pregnant. She said she unexpectedly gave birth in the bathroom of her home, and in a panic she cut the umbilical cord, wrapped the baby in a towel and put it in a garbage bag, and left – and admitted that she had thrown it in the trash.

Police said Avila treated the baby as “this” throughout the investigation. “When asked what she thought would eventually happen to the baby by placing it in a plastic bag and throwing it in the trash, Alexis remained silent and could not answer. A sign she was well aware that the baby would die as a result,” police wrote in the indictment.

Alexis’ mother, Martha Avila, told police she did not know about her daughter’s pregnancy. “She denied that she had any prior knowledge of Alexis’ pregnancy, and stated that she only noticed that she had gained weight recently, but thought it was nothing,” it was reported.

Alexis said she is sure the father is her ex-boyfriend, with whom she dated about a year and a half before the relationship ended in August. Avila’s mother told police that the ex-spouse was no longer hardened to be at her home after she allegedly beat her.

Avila is now charged with attempted murder, and is expected to stand trial in Leah District Court.
