When does mushroom season start? It will soon be that time again! The mushroom season begins in the second half of August and peaks in September and early October. After a dry period of about three days after rain, the mushrooms sprout out of the ground en masse.

Mushroom species in Germany

From porcini mushrooms to chanterelles and from chestnut mushrooms to king boletus: There are over 2,500 native mushroom species in Germany. Many of them are very popular with mushroom pickers – but others are poisonous.
