From September 17 to 24, Culture Week is celebrated in the Artemiseño municipality of Güira de Melena. This date responds to the anniversary of the founding of the territory on September 23, 1878 and then brings together a varied group of activities with the different artistic manifestations and the talent of professional and amateur artists of the town.
Odalis Bejerano Expósito, Municipal Director of Culture, explained that the proposals were prepared in advance in joint work between the Programming Workshop and the Artists’ Advisory Council in search of balanced options for these days, where outstanding figures in the development of the Güireña Culture and traditions of our municipality.
In addition to the fixed spaces that the people already know, the cultural sector proposed innovative activities such as the Meeting with the Güireño writer, promoted by the Cine Apolo.
They also presented the Searching for the Güireña Voice Contest, launched last year and which was resumed within the framework of the recently concluded Culture Week.
The Traditions Gala could not be missed on these dates, especially because it makes it possible to rescue those typical customs that the elderly know and that must be incorporated into the cognitive universe of the new generations.
Odalis Bejerano highlighted that on these dates all institutions always participate, although the limelight is won by the Juan Manuel Sánchez Amat Municipal Museum, the Emilio Rivero Merlín Art Gallery, and the Francisco Pérez Guzmán Cultural Center. The Las Ruinas Recreation Center, belonging to the Palmares Chain, also supported this week’s activities.
Strengthening customs and traditions of a town is a way of not letting our origins die and that is why it was advocated during the Güireña Culture Week.
