Municipal Councilor Criticizes Lack of Support for Shooting Victims in Sandviken

After the recent shooting at Mulligans in Sandviken, municipal councilor Peter Kärnström (S) expressed his anger and disbelief that such a tragedy could occur in their community. However, his comments have raised questions about the support offered by the municipality to those affected by the incident.

“We don’t know who was there,” said Kärnström, highlighting the lack of information regarding the individuals involved in the shooting. He admitted that the municipality did not discover the incident until the morning after it occurred.

Kärnström continues to carry the shock and disbelief from the incident, stating, “This is a completely normal pub in Sandviken where we all usually go. You should be able to go out and have a beer and know that you will come home again.”

Following Kärnström’s comments, inquiries were made regarding the support provided by the municipality to the victims. Concerned citizens questioned the actions taken to assist those affected in the aftermath of the shooting.

“We don’t know who was there, and unfortunately, we at the municipality didn’t find out that it had happened until the morning after,” clarified Kärnström. In response to the incident and the subsequent criticism, Kärnström is set to discuss the issue with the municipal board on Tuesday, addressing the need for improved communication and coordination in similar situations.

As a municipal councilor, Kärnström believes it is crucial to be informed about serious incidents as soon as possible to ensure prompt action. He plans to discuss the involvement of the municipality’s security manager, Rolf Sundqvist, and how authorities collaborate in responding to such incidents.

Regarding the municipality’s crisis preparedness group, known as the POSOM group, Kärnström revealed that he is not part of it, but he believes it was not activated following the shooting. Rolf Sundqvist, the head of security and coordinator of the POSOM group, confirmed this information.

Sundqvist explained that the POSOM group’s activation depends on the situation and the number of people affected. In this case, since no one from Sandviken municipality was informed until they read about it in the newspaper on Friday morning, the group was not called upon.

“We don’t think it’s okay that the municipality doesn’t get a signal after such serious incidents have happened,” stated Sundqvist, emphasizing the need for improved communication between the police and local authorities.

With regards to support for the shooting victims, the municipality of Sandviken has not offered any assistance. However, the church opened its doors on Friday and provided support and comfort to those in need.

The incident at Mulligans in Sandviken has stirred public concern over the municipality’s response and support for those affected. As discussions take place within the municipal board, it is hoped that improved protocols and communication will be established to ensure the well-being of the community in similar situations.
