He is going to leave Brussels. EELV MEP Yannick Jadot was elected senator this Sunday, September 24, during the senatorial elections renewing half of the upper house. The list of the “rally of the left” led by outgoing PS senator Rémi Féraud on which he appears obtained 54.58% of the votes, allowing him to obtain 8 seats. Yannick Jadot was in fifth place on this list. Until then, the former presidential candidate was a European deputy and had already expressed his wish not to run again in 2024 in the next European elections. A total of twelve senatorial seats were to be filled in Paris.

Last February, Yannick Jadot announced to Le Parisien his intention to become a senator. “I decided to invest more in national politics by strengthening the environmental group in the Senate which is fighting on renewable energies and the constitutionalization of abortion,” he justified in our columns a few months ago.

A “left-wing rally” list

This “left-wing gathering” list came from “the elected Parisian majority of Anne Hidalgo”, in the words of its head of list Rémi Féraud. It had three deputy mayors of Paris in eligible positions, including housing deputy Ian Brossat in third position. He/she was also elected.

Opposite, the “Changer Paris” list led by Catherine Dumas and supported by LR and the head of the opposition at Paris town hall Rachida Dati – mayor of the 7th arrondissement of Paris – obtained 3 seats. This was listed in an ineligible position. Former LR senator Pierre Charon presented his own Divers Right list called “Let’s liberate Paris with Pierre Charon!” », without succeeding in getting re-elected. The LFI list “Paris Popular Ecological and Social Union” with 2.19% of the vote has no elected representatives.

Paris was one of the 27 departments where more than three senators had to be elected, in this case twelve. Voting carried out proportionally and by list. Eight lists had been submitted in Paris. Nationally, 170 of 348 Senate seats were up for renewal this Sunday. They were chosen by indirect universal ballot by 78,000 “electors”.
