The two RN vice-presidents of the National Assembly, Sébastien Chenu and Hélène Laporte, can breathe. According to our information, their status will not be called into question even though since September 15, environmentalists have been threatening to review the composition of the National Assembly office.

This Tuesday, September 26, EELV decided to consult its troops in the Assembly on this sensitive subject by means of an electronic vote. Result: the status quo wins. At 4:30 p.m., thirteen deputies had spoken in favor of maintaining the current office, in which the RN holds two of the six vice-presidencies, against six in favor of calling into question. For the supporters of the questioning, which includes the former secretary general of EELV Julien Bayou, it is not admissible to keep the RN in the office because this largely contributes to their trivialization.

If the supporters of the status quo share this concern, they take into account the fact that Renaissance, through the voice of the President of the Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet, does not wish to call into question the distribution of positions established last year. “If we question the presence of the RN, Renaissance has already said that they would remove LFI (which holds a vice-presidency) from the office. I am not sure that this contributes to the good understanding within the Nupes, essential to fight against the RN”, argues the deputy Aurélien Taché.

The Insoumis took a dim view of the questioning of the composition of the office

Already on Monday, the president of the environmental group, Cyrielle Chatelain, who wrote a letter on September 15 to her three counterparts from the majority groups to ask them to prevent the RN from having access to the vice-presidency of the Assembly , suggested an abandonment of the standoff with the Parisian: “It is the majority which has the key to the vote. If it’s to repeat the match from a year ago and relegitimize the RN, there’s no point…” she sighed.

It must be said that the Insoumis took a dim view of the questioning of the composition of the office. “The RN has too many vice-presidencies but we don’t want to be the jokers. A vote in the hemicycle could be a trap for us,” an LFI executive grimaced on Monday.

Taking note of this vote, Cyrielle Chatelain did not request a new distribution of office positions this Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. during an ad hoc meeting of group presidents. According to our information, the group presidents returned to the office at the end of the afternoon… with its two RN vice-presidents.
