Monkeypox Cases Reported in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

HANOI – The Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control has confirmed two cases of monkeypox in southern Vietnam. A 25-year-old male patient tested positive for the monkeypox virus after seeking treatment at the Ho Chi Minh City Skin Hospital on September 22. He was immediately quarantined for further medical care.

In response to the cases, the center is closely monitoring eight individuals who had close contact with the confirmed patients. Unfortunately, one person living in Binh Duong Province has also tested positive for the monkeypox virus. As a precautionary measure, all close contacts are advised to self-monitor their health at home for a period of 21 days.

Thankfully, both patients are currently in stable condition and receiving appropriate treatment. They have been instructed to thoroughly clean and disinfect their homes and personal belongings. This is to prevent the potential spread of the virus to others.

Monkeypox is a rare viral disease that is similar to smallpox and can cause fever, skin rashes, and nodules. It is primarily transmitted to humans from animals such as rodents and monkeys. While monkeypox is generally a mild illness, severe cases can occur, particularly among those with weakened immune systems.

The Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control is working diligently to prevent further spread of the virus. Local authorities are conducting extensive contact tracing to identify and isolate any potential cases.

The public is urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and others from monkeypox. This includes practicing good hygiene, such as regular handwashing, and avoiding close contact with sick individuals and animals.

With the support of healthcare professionals and the cooperation of the public, Vietnam aims to control and eradicate monkeypox in its early stages. The government will continue to provide updates and guidance to ensure the well-being of its citizens.]
