In one stroke, the speech of the PP candidate for the Presidency of the Government, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, dispelled the doubts of those who questioned his leadership within the party. A focused speech marked by six State pacts, which did not go unnoticed despite Pedro Sánchez’s shock. The same one who, in an attempt to “ignore” Feijóo, chose Óscar Puente to avoid giving explanations about the amnesty. Explanations, by the way, that ERC and Junts did give in the face of Sánchez’s silence.
Today’s day will resume with another highlight, the intervention of the spokesperson for EH Bildu, Mertxe Aizpurua, who will be followed by the spokespersons for the PNV and the Mixed Group (BNG, UPN and the Canary Coalition). Finally, it will be the PP who closes the debate prior to the first vote. If in this first attempt Núñez Feijóo does not obtain the absolute majority (176 deputies), as planned, a second vote will have to be held within 48 hours (Friday the 29th). This Wednesday’s vote marks the moment when the clock begins to tick, as the two-month period begins for the chamber to grant its confidence to a new head of the Executive. If no candidate was elected within that period, the king would dissolve the Cortes Generales and call new elections, which would be held on January 14.
