O Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF) resumes this Wednesday (27) the judgment regarding land demarcation. Last week, the court struck down Bill (PL) 490, better known as “Marco Temporal”.
The court’s analysis of the PL 490 started in 2021. The proposal was that only indigenous lands that had already been granted before the federal Constitution, in 1988, are recognized. As a result, the original peoples of Brazil would lose a large part of their territory.

The text also provided for the prohibition on expanding already demarcated indigenous landsas well as permission for a cooperation contract between natives and not natives for economic activities and other points.
Faced with the project’s overturn, ministers meet today to establish a parameter used in disputes over demarcation of indigenous lands.
With this, the STF visa to guarantee of legal security for demarcations.
