Today, at the conference room of Na Fai Subdistrict Administrative Organization in Chaiyaphum Province, a groundbreaking project to combat kidney disease was launched. Pol. Col. Sorawit Ma-in, the President of the organization, led the event alongside Dr. Amorn Premkamon, a former specialized doctor in kidney disease from Srinagarindra Hospital in Khon Kaen Province.

The project aims to slow down kidney deterioration in patients with chronic diseases within Na Fai Subdistrict, where the number of individuals suffering from chronic kidney disease and end-stage kidney failure has been rapidly increasing. Chronic kidney disease is a condition that requires continuous treatment and comes with high medical costs. In the end stage of kidney failure, hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis is necessary, both of which can be quite expensive.

In order to raise awareness about the importance of self-care among patients with chronic kidney disease and to reduce the financial burden on the government, the Na Fai Subdistrict Administrative Organization has implemented this project in 2023. The program focuses on educating individuals on how to prevent chronic kidney disease, as well as how to care for and delay end-stage kidney failure. By providing quality treatment from the early stages, patients can enjoy a better quality of life and lessen the financial strain caused by end-stage kidney failure.

Approximately 70 people from Na Fai Subdistrict, who are currently in various stages of chronic kidney disease, participated in the examination and treatment program. These individuals underwent screenings and evaluations to assess their symptoms of chronic kidney failure and will be treated accordingly. Furthermore, all participants will receive free medication to take at home, making this initiative the first of its kind at the sub-district level in Thailand.

Pol. Col. Sorawit Ma-in, President of Na Fai Subdistrict Administrative Organization, shared that after assuming his position, he noticed a high prevalence of chronic kidney disease among villagers in the northeastern region of Na Fai Subdistrict. To address this issue, he invited Dr. Amorn Premkamon, a former specialist in kidney disease, to provide medical support. Along with a team from Srinagarindra Hospital, Khon Kaen Province, Dr. Premkamon examined and treated patients with chronic kidney failure at every stage of the illness. Patients were not required to bear any financial burden for their treatment.

Today, 70 individuals with chronic kidney failure were admitted for treatment through the project. Those who were not able to receive treatment will be arranged for the next phase, depending on the needs of the chronic kidney disease patients in the area. This project is the first of its kind at the sub-district level in Thailand.

Dr. Amorn Premkamon, the former kidney disease specialist from Srinagarindra Hospital, stated that the participants in the project will undergo ultrasound examinations to assess their conditions. All patients involved will be provided with the necessary medication to continue their treatment at home, free of charge. Dr. Premkamon has been conducting this project on a monthly basis for over 30 years.

This initiative by the Na Fai Subdistrict Administrative Organization is a significant step toward addressing the growing problem of chronic kidney disease in the region. By providing accessible and free treatment to patients, it not only improves their quality of life but also helps alleviate the financial burden on the government. The success of this project sets a precedent for similar endeavors in Thailand and highlights the importance of proactive healthcare initiatives at the sub-district level.]
