GB News Host Dan Wootton Suspended Following Controversial Comments by Laurence Fox

GB News host Dan Wootton has been suspended following comments made on his show by Laurence Fox, which sparked outrage and concerns over the safety of female reporter Ava Evans. This comes after GB News had already suspended Fox for his insensitive remarks during a live show about Evans.

During the show, Fox questioned the character of Evans, asking what “self-respecting man” would “climb into bed” with her. Evans, who was present during the interview, expressed feeling “sick” and worried for her safety after hearing those comments. Wootton later apologized for the remarks, expressing regret for the interview.

GB News swiftly deemed Fox’s insult as “totally unacceptable” and announced the suspension of Dan Wootton. The channel emphasized that it is currently conducting a full investigation into the matter.

The controversy originated during an exchange involving Evans, mental health, and a discussion on BBC Politics Live. Evans had expressed her thoughts on the idea of appointing a minister for men, stating that it was used by ministers to make women their enemy. She later apologized for the comment, acknowledging that it was “a little rash” and clarified that she was interested in a minister focusing on young men’s mental health.

Following the incident, Evans shared her concerns in an interview on PoliticsJOE’s podcast. She stated that she saw no resolution without Fox leaving the channel and expressed fear for her safety. Evans underscored that people watching such incidents often misinterpret the context and become irate. She voiced her worry about potential repercussions, saying, “Where are you going to be if someone turns up at my house tomorrow?”

Evans also disclosed that Wootton had repeatedly reached out to her after the interview with Fox was broadcast. She expressed her discomfort, recounting how she received calls and voicemails from Wootton until the early hours of the morning. Additionally, she criticized Wootton for laughing about the comments made during the interview and questioned the inaction of the show’s gallery staff.

This incident has not only raised concerns over the treatment of female reporters but has also brought into question the involvement of Conservative MPs such as Jacob Rees-Mogg and Lee Anderson on GB News. Evans suggested that hosting shows alongside individuals like Fox, who seemingly objectify women, provokes a problematic environment.

Prior to his suspension, Wootton’s lawyer expressed his client’s sincere desire to personally apologize to Ms. Evans. However, he also respected her wishes if she did not want any further contact.

As GB News continues its investigation into the matter, the channel faces mounting pressure to address the concerns raised by this controversy and ensure the safety and dignity of its female staff members.
