In the activities of the Shin Bet in cooperation with the police and the IDF, the terrorist infrastructure was exposed and thwarted, which operated in the territories of Israel and in the Judea and Samaria region – in accordance with the guidance and direction of Iranian security officials. Among the detainees, three Palestinians – Murad Kamamaja, a 47-year-old resident of Kfar Dan, Hassan Mujerima, a 34-year-old resident of Jenin, Ziad Shanti, a 45-year-old resident of Jenin, and two Israeli citizens – Hamad Hamadi, a 23-year-old resident of Nazareth, and Youssef Hamad, a resident of Moqibla 18 years old.
Their investigation by the Shin Bet reveals that Murad and Hassan acted under the direction and guidance of an official living in Jordan, who acted on behalf of Iranian security officials. The two were asked to assist in smuggling illegal weapons into Israeli territory and to gather intelligence on security personnel and senior public figures, including Minister Itamar Ben Gabir and former Knesset member Yehuda Glick . However, the investigation revealed that in light of the security arrangements around the minister, they were unable to carry out the task they were asked to perform.
In addition, Murad and Hassan acted at the direction and guidance of elements on behalf of the Iranian security forces. They engaged in the promotion of terrorist activity within the territories of Israel and, among other things, engaged in and persuaded others to set fire to the vehicles of Israeli citizens. The Shin Bet’s investigation also revealed that Murad and Hassan recruited Ziad Shanti for the sake of promoting the security activity – with the latter aware that Iranian elements are directing the activity.
Ziad Shanti recruited two Israeli citizens – Hamad Hammadi and Youssef Hamad in order to set fire to the vehicles, and the two set fire to vehicles in Haifa on June 22 and even recorded the acts. The assessment is that this is a test mission on behalf of the targeted elements in Iran, in order to further promote a much more serious terrorist activity – which was thwarted with the arrest of the members of the infrastructure.
The investigation revealed an Iranian method of operation, of using Israeli citizens, including those with a criminal background, and recruiting them to promote terrorist activity on criminal operation platforms, in exchange for the payment of money.
In recent days, indictments were filed in the military court as well as in the district court in Haifa by the Haifa district attorney’s office against those involved attributing serious security offenses to them.
