600 tonnes of cement from the Chinese company Great Lakes Company (GLC) based in the DRC unloaded at the port of Bujumbura on September 25, 23 will have to wait in warehouses before being marketed. According to the BBN, analyzes of compliance with standards must first be carried out.

“If it turns out that this cement does not comply with standards, it will be returned to the company that produces it”declared Séverin Sindayikengera, director general of BBN, the Burundian Bureau of Standardization and Quality Control.

According to him, this is in order to enforce the principles of quality and standards. The GLC company is accused by the BBN of falsifying the results of its cement data.

This company based in the DRC, continues the general director, did so to show that its cement is of very good quality. “This is dangerous and it is a serious offense, which is why the sanctions are provided for, we can resort to them.”

Analyzes had been carried out at OBUHA

Claude Bernard Manirambona, representative of the companies Musumba Ciment and Nepacom, the two companies which imported this cement in question, indicated that samples had nevertheless been given to the national laboratory of the Burundian Office of Urban Planning, Housing and Construction for analyses.

“The laboratory gave us the results and they were very good”, maintains Manirambona. The companies he represents are then placed with the order from the GLC company.

He hopes that the BBN will find that the cement meets the criteria and conforms to the standards. “It is greatly appreciated by manufacturers and all customers in general.”

And ask the BBN to be rapid in its analyzes and tests to help its companies bear the costs of warehouses and parking of boats that transport cement.

This company has already supplied many stocks to Burundian traders. The representative of the companies Musumba Ciment and Nepacom, the two companies which imported this cement, also indicates that it is used on certain construction sites in Burundi. (Iwacu).
