Controversy Erupts as Minister Ponmudi Criticized for Mistreatment of DMK Member
Amidst recent controversy surrounding Minister Ponmudi, a new issue has emerged involving VP Rajan, a distinguished member of the DMK party. According to reports, VP Rajan, who serves as the Joint Secretary of the Adi Dravida Welfare Division, met with Minister Ponmudi at his residence a few days ago. However, tensions arose when the minister requested that Rajan stand while they engaged in conversation.
Responding to this incident, a DMK member from Virudhunagar district stated that VP Rajan has been an esteemed member of the party since 1975. As a dedicated party worker, Rajan tirelessly spread the principles of the Dravidian movement throughout southern districts, contributing significantly to the growth of the DMK. Additionally, he successfully became an MLA in 1996 after defeating Arunachalam of the Congress party, who held the esteemed position of Union Minister.
The primary reason for Rajan’s meeting with Minister Ponmudi was to discuss the upcoming Karunanidhi Centenary programs. However, Rajan was disheartened to witness Ponmudi comfortably seated while their discussion took place. Despite his seniority within the party, Rajan was disregarded and promptly sent away by the minister, sparking criticism on social media platforms due to the perception of mistreatment based on Rajan’s Adi Dravidian caste.
In response to the backlash, Rajan disputed the notion that he faced discrimination during the meeting. According to him, Minister Ponmudi was already seated in a chair and had his leg bandaged at the time of their interaction. Rajan claimed that he approached Ponmudi, greeted him, and proceeded to inform him of the recent events. He insisted that there was no intention of disrespect and even offered the minister to sit down while they conversed. Rajan emphasized that there was no racial issue involved, and both he and Ponmudi value dignity in their actions.
