ISTANBUL. Victory Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ made statements regarding the local elections to be held next March and the discussions about changes in the opposition.

Answering the questions of Sözcü’s Ruhat Mengi, Özdağ announced that they will go to the elections with their own candidates in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. Özdağ, who also criticized Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality President Ekrem İmamoğlu, said, “No one should tell us the ‘non-partisan’ tale. “I do not think that a mayor who does not properly evaluate the opportunity to serve for 5 years in Istanbul and makes his own personal career planning will be beneficial for Istanbul,” he said.

‘WHAT ACTUALLY DIVIDES THE VOTES ARE THOSE WHO HAVE DEFEATED BY ERDOĞAN FOR 21 YEARS’

Özdağ listed his criticisms of İmamoğlu and CHP as follows:

“İmamoğlu won the elections by gaining great support in the last elections. If he had evaluated this correctly, we would not be talking about such an issue today, but instead of devoting his time to Istanbul, İmamoğlu constantly focused on the Presidency of the Republican People’s Party and his candidacy for President, and where we are today is the point of ‘If you support me, I will win’. The Turkish people are tired of being confronted with this discourse in every election. We were approached with this discourse in the last election. We supported Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu in the second round, without making any demands, only within the framework of defending the founding principles of the Republic, fighting against terrorism and accepting the sending of refugees to their homeland. “No one can say that the Victory Party divided the votes. The real dividers are those who have been running from defeat to defeat against Erdoğan for 21 years.” FULL INTERVIEW
