In Ariyalur district, a 37-year-old lorry driver from Sentura was arrested for raping his Plus 2 student daughter multiple times, resulting in her pregnancy. The mother was found complicit in the act and had purchased abortion pills to terminate the seven-month pregnancy. The situation took a grim turn when a dead male infant was discovered buried behind the family’s residence. Authorities were alerted by the examining doctor at Ariyalur Government Medical College Hospital, and a case has been registered under the POCSO Act.
In another disturbing incident, a 32-year-old laborer from Keezakarai Anna Nagar was arrested for killing his 90-year-old grandmother. Allegedly under the influence of alcohol, the man engaged in a heated argument with his grandmother and threw a TV at her head. The elderly woman died on the spot. The grandson was arrested and taken into custody by the Keezhakarai police.
A woman in Salem district has been engaged in a 35-day-long protest, fighting for her right to live with her husband. Despite being married for five months with the consent of their families, her husband and in-laws have denied her access to their home.
