Reasonable hopes that there will be interest in the Ioannina-Heraklion air line in the near future, something that has not happened so far in the tenders for the barren line, emerges from the response of the Civil Aviation Authority to a document of the mayor of Ioannina.
The Civil Aviation Authority reports that it is considering the possibility of amending the terms of the announcement and repeating the tender process, which was requested by both the Municipality of Ioannina and professional bodies of Ioannina and Crete, such as the Hotel Associations of Heraklion, Ioannina, and Chania, the Rethymnon Hoteliers Association, the Association of Tourist & Travel Agencies of Crete, the Association of Tourist Agencies & Buses of Ioannina Prefecture and the Federation of Professionals, Craftsmen and Merchants of the Prefecture of Ioannina.
Concerted pressure from Ioannina and Crete had been exerted after the last tender, where again there was no interest, which was attributed to the fact that the terms were not so attractive for the airlines. Thus, the need to repeat the tender with better conditions was entered as a request, with the Civil Aviation Authority showing a positive attitude.
The answer, signed by the commander of the Civil Aviation Authority, dr. Christos Tsitouras, is also notified to the Ministry of Infrastructure & Transport, to which the mayor of Ioannina had also addressed, stressing the necessity of the immediate announcement of a repeat tender.
On the occasion of the response from the Civil Aviation Authority, D. Papageorgiou, in his statement, points out that maximum political pressure is required from the deputies of the Prefecture and all the agencies of the region, so that the process can be launched immediately. “The inclusion of the Ioannina-Heraklion line in the barren was a step. Turns out it wasn’t enough to take on flesh and blood. Given that the Civil Aviation Authority is considering the re-announcement of the tender, we consider it imperative to exercise the maximum political pressure, so that the required amendments are made to the announcement and the tender is announced as soon as possible. On behalf of the Municipality and the municipal authority, this pressure will continue”, underlined the mayor.
