Jerusalem, Israel – On the eve of the Sukkot holiday, the level separation on Shazar Boulevard in Jerusalem was opened to traffic, marking a significant milestone in the city’s transportation infrastructure. The major transportation project, promoted by the Ministry of Transportation and the Jerusalem Municipality and executed by the Moriah Jerusalem Development Company, aims to provide a new gateway to the capital and enable fast, underground passage from the entrance to the city to its center.

The level separation section, stretching approximately 730 meters, features two tunnels and two entrances to an underground parking lot located below it. This project specifically caters to passengers seeking direct access to the city center. The tunnel openings, adorned with visually appealing design elements and advanced lighting systems, are positioned near the String Bridge and the intersection of Ben Zvi and Agrips streets.

By regulating traffic from Herzl Boulevard and Rabin Boulevard, the project is expected to alleviate congestion at the entrance to the city. The completion of additional components and the parking lot under the tunnels is scheduled for March.

Currently, the construction of the Shazar parking lot is underway beneath the level separation. Spanning 5 underground floors at a depth of approximately 40 meters, the parking lot will offer around 1,300 parking spaces. With connectivity to all public transportation components and the level separation, it is set to open in the coming year.

Minister of Transportation and Road Safety Brigadier General Miri Regev applauded the project, stating, “The future transportation center Shazer represents the overall transportation concept that I am promoting, which emphasizes connectivity and integration. This is another huge step in the right direction.” Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the positive impact this development would have on the city’s traffic congestion and accessibility.

The Director General of the Ministry of Transportation and Road Safety, Moshe Ben Zaken, underlined the significance of the project in facilitating convenient transitions between different modes of transportation. He added that the new tunnels would play a crucial role in reducing traffic congestion and enhancing road safety at the entrance to Jerusalem. Itzik Larry, CEO of the Jerusalem Municipality, hailed the opening of the level separation as a major milestone in the city’s development.

The project is part of Jerusalem’s transportation infrastructure revolution, which aims to provide a comprehensive transportation solution for the growing city’s needs. As Jerusalem continues to evolve into the largest transportation city in Israel, the opening of the level separation on Shazar Boulevard serves as a testament to the city’s commitment to sustainable and efficient urban development.
