Protests Erupt in Karnataka over Release of Cauvery Water to Tamil Nadu, Government Plans Legal Action

Bangalore – Protests have erupted in Karnataka to condemn the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu as per the Supreme Court order. Angered by the decision, Vatal Nagaraj, president of the Federation of Kannada Organizations, called for a complete blockade across Karnataka to demonstrate their opposition.

Following Nagaraj’s call, a complete blockade was held in Karnataka today, causing disruptions across the state. The protests aim to put pressure on the authorities, urging them to reconsider the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, the Cauvery Management Authority held an advisory meeting in Delhi today to address the ongoing water dispute. Tamil Nadu government officials attending the meeting requested the release of 12,500 cubic feet of water per second from Cauvery to Tamil Nadu.

However, the Karnataka government officials refused to comply with the demand. Despite their objections, the Cauvery Management Authority ordered the Karnataka government to release 3,000 cubic feet of water from the Cauvery to Tamil Nadu by October 15.

In response to the order, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Water Resources Minister DK Sivakumar held a consultation with legal experts to determine the next steps in the matter. Following the discussion, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that they will file a petition in the Supreme Court tomorrow against the order of the Cauvery Management Authority.

Siddaramaiah stressed the urgency of the situation and mentioned his plans to file a review petition in the Cauvery Management Authority as well. The Chief Minister hopes that through legal action, they can challenge the decision and protect the interests of the people of Karnataka.

The release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu has long been a contentious issue, leading to frequent disputes between the two states. As tensions rise, both sides are now eagerly awaiting the court’s decision on this latest development, hoping for a resolution that satisfies all parties involved.
