‘A crucial moment’ for critical minerals, says US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm

Lithium, cobalt, nickel, manganese: these metals and many others are essential to the manufacture of batteries for electric cars, wind turbines and solar panels. By 2050, the demand for lithium should be multiplied by 50. That of nickel would be multiplied by 9. The production of these raw materials is concentrated in a handful of countries and their refining takes place mainly in China. While diplomatic and economic tensions continue between Beijing and Washington, the American Secretary of State for Energy, Jennifer Granholm, who participated in Paris in the first international summit on critical minerals, organized by the International Energy Agency energy, responded to questions from RFI.
