Max Eberl has to leave RB Leipzig – the surprising expulsion is also related to rumors about FC Bayern. Uli Hoeneß now comments on the case in Munich.

München.

Bayern Munich’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß has expressed reservations about Max Eberl’s expulsion from RB Leipzig. “It’s not my decision or our decision,” said the record champions’ long-time club patron on Friday evening when asked about the surprising news from their league rivals.

The Saxons had previously parted ways with sports director Eberl after less than a year – and that just one day before the Bundesliga top game against Bayern (Saturday, 6.30 p.m./Sky).

Hoeneß was asked on the sidelines of FC Bayern’s basketball game against Syntainics MBC whether the development at RB now meant that Eberl was free for a possible commitment in Munich and that Hoeneß would like to have him at the club. “What all that means…” Hoeneß answered in front of journalists and then added: “I can’t say anything about it.”

The Leipzig team parted ways with Eberl, who was only signed in December 2022, because they complained about the “lack of commitment” in the Lower Bavaria native and former FC Bayern youth player. According to dpa information, this involved repeated, hesitant commitments to RB Leipzig. On Wednesday, Eberl was linked by “Sport Bild” with the job as sports director at his favorite club, Bayern Munich. The 50-year-old only responded with empty phrases. Hoeneß wanted to guide Eberl to Munich a few years ago. (dpa)
