The Frankfurt Opera can look forward to receiving an award from the specialist magazine “Opernwelt” for the seventh time. Which opera houses and performances were honored?

The Frankfurt Opera has secured the “Opera House of the Year” award for the seventh time. According to “Opernwelt”, 42 critics interviewed by the trade magazine came to the verdict. According to information, the house is characterized by a keen sense of “a dramaturgically plausible, innovative and varied program as well as choosing the right directors for a wide variety of works.”
The “rediscovery of the year” was mentioned as an example. It is Rudi Stephan’s “The First People” under the direction of the outgoing general music director Sebastian Weigle. The director was Tobias scratch, who will take over as director of the Hamburg State Opera in 2025.
Also “Choir of the Year”
In the Frankfurt house, the “Opernwelt” also selected the “Choir of the Year”, which showed outstanding performances in Georg Friedrich Handel’s “Hercules” and Richard Wagner’s “Meistersingern von Nuremberg”. “Premiere of the year” are “Blühen” by Vito Žuraj (Oper Frankfurt) and Charles Tournemire’s “La Légende de Tristan” (Theater Ulm).

The critics also named the Tolstoy setting “Performance of the Year”. The Bavarian State Opera can also look forward to being named “Orchestra of the Year”.
The “Opernwelt” sees Kirill Petrenko, chief conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic, as “Conductor of the Year” for a “delicate and highly differentiated conducting” of Richard Strauss’ “Woman without a Shadow” at the Baden-Baden Festival. (dpa)
