“It is time for us to feel proud of Asturian companies and the scientific ecosystem of the region,” said yesterday the Minister of Science, Business, Training and Employment of the Principality, Borja Sánchez, at the presentation of the Business Awards of the Principality of Asturias, awarded by the Asturian Science, Business Competitiveness and Innovation Agency (Sekuens) to Capsa (in the internationalization modality), TSK (innovation) and Aleastur (growth). The three distinguished companies are “the spearhead” in the region and “a good example of what is being done in Asturias,” said Sánchez, president of Sekuens. The Minister of Ecological Transition, Industry and Economic Development, Nieves Roqueñí, highlighted that Asturias has “an industrial fabric very prepared to address the challenges of decarbonization and digitalization.”

José Armando Tellado, general director of the dairy company Capsa, a subsidiary of Central Lechera Asturiana and awarded for its internationalization since 2013, pointed out that the company has achieved profitability with its sales abroad after “losing money for a time” and today its products are present in 50 countries, in 14 of them as of last year. “The UN has 193 member states. We have to continue growing,” said Tellado, who claimed livestock activity as an “essential sector” and announced that this year Capsa plans to exceed 1.1 billion in revenue compared to 895 million in revenue in 2022.

Sabino García Vallina, president of the Gijón engineering company TSK, highlighted his group’s commitment to innovation since 1995, with an average annual investment in recent years for this purpose of 12 million (1.2% of the company’s income) and that in the next year it plans to increase up to 2% of turnover. In May he created an R&D&I center to regroup and coordinate activities of this type developed by various departments of the group. Among other projects, engineering will address the production of green hydrogen without connection to the electrical grid, improving the performance of electrolyzers and batteries, a hybrid model of solar thermal and photovoltaic plants, and improving the performance of materials handling machines. .

“We will go where we have to go, but with the decision center in Asturias,” said Sergio Martínez, CEO of Asturiana de Aleaciones (Aleastur), with two plants in Gozón and two others in Carreño and Bahrain, which exports 90%. of its production to 80 countries, it has more than 800 clients, an innovation center and distribution centers in 13 nations. Last year it had a turnover of 168 million, almost double that of 2017 (87 million). “We will continue with the same vocation for growth and we will have to learn a lot and very quickly, but without losing our founding principles,” he said.
