Europe only needs four points to win the 44th edition of the Ryder Cup after dominating the second day on Saturday, despite an American surge in the afternoon. Before the last day, this Sunday, where twelve singles duels are on the program, for a total of twelve points at stake, the Europeans lead 10.5 points to 5.5. They can therefore quickly reach the score of 14.5 points, synonymous with victory, two years after their rout of Whistling Straits, in Wisconsin (19-9).

Conversely, if the Americans want to keep the trophy and sign their first victory on European soil since 1993, they will have to achieve a resounding feat and be almost flawless in the singles. From what they showed on Friday and Saturday, they still cannot, with a few exceptions, get used to the Marco Simone Golf course, its complicated fairways and tricky greens.

They certainly regained color on Saturday with four victories in the eight games of the day and a first session won, that of the afternoon (3 to 1), but they also experienced setbacks. Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka, respectively world No.1 and winner of five Grand Slam tournaments, were humiliated in the morning by the Norwegian Viktor Hovland and the Swede Ludvig Aberg who signed the largest victory in the history of the Ryder Cup (9 & 7). The victory in the last game of Patrick Cantlay and Wyndham Clark against Matthew Fitzpatrick and Rory McIlroy (1 up) however allows them to keep a slim hope.
