The company specializing in creams and sauces, Tap Tap Food, has launched a new production plant of 4,000 square meters in Sant Joan les Fonts. Founded in 2011, the company is participated in 50% by the food group Noel and invested 7 million euros in these new facilities which are added to the production center that the company has in Sant Quirze del Vallès (Vallès Occidental). Between both ships there will be a team of a hundred workers. According to company sources, the aim of the new industry is to “increase production capacity to boost business in the foreign market and increase sales”.

The investment and start-up of this new plant represents, according to Noel’s general manager, Joan Boix, “another step in Noel’s diversification strategy”. The new factory in Sant Joan les Fonts has a production capacity of more than five thousand tons annuallywhere “refrigerated products can be produced, packaged hot and processed by high hydrostatic pressures, thanks to the technology available”.

The plant has obtained quality and food safety certifications in the international arena as IFS (International Food Standard) and BRC (British Retail Consortium). Likewise, it has the certifications awarded by organizations such as the CCPAE (Catalan Council for Organic Agricultural Production), as well as the Swiss V-Label, internationally recognized for vegetarian and vegan products, in several of its references.

Sustainable building

According to company sources, Tap Tap Food develops its activity in line with the Sustainable Development Goals that mark the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations. In this sense, “the new building has been proposed with sustainability standards and has a certified environmental management system”.

The plant uses technologies in water recovery systems, such as for cleaning and disinfecting the pipelines for the transport of the product, where a CIP is incorporated to clean the process pipes; or for cleaning vegetables, where automatic chlorine and pH controls have been incorporated to minimize the plant’s water consumption.

In terms of energy use, the plant is supplied with steam and the hot water coming from the cogeneration plant that Noel has in the Begudà plan, “rationalizing the use of these fluids and dispensing with the incorporation of natural gas boilers, avoiding carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere what they would entail”. The electrical energy also comes from the cogeneration plant itself, “encouraging the self-consumption of energy generated on-site to reduce the carbon footprint.”

In addition, low-consumption lighting with LED technology has been installed, as well as equipment and building elements with maximum energy performance, following the sustainability criteria defined in the Guide for Sustainable Construction that Noel applies to all their production centers.

Noel

Located in Sant Joan les Fonts, Noel Alimentaria is a fourth generation family food group. It specializes in the production and distribution (both for the national and international market) of cooked and cured ham, sausages and fresh meats and, recently, it has diversified its offer with vegetable products and pizzas. It has a workforce of around 2,500 workers distributed in sixteen production centers throughout the State and has activity in 66 countries.
