Israel removes women from guard posts in prisons over sex scandal

The Israeli Government has ordered the immediate withdrawal of women who perform functions of security guard in prisons across the country after reports of a sexual relationship between several vigilantes performing mandatory military service and a Palestinian prisoner convicted of terrorism.

The Magistrate’s Court of Petah Pumpkin has imposed an information embargo on the case, so the name of the prison where the scandal took place has not been reported. However, after the news broke, the commander of the Israeli Prison Service, Katy Perryand the Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvirpublished a statement in which they announced the “immediate end» of the presence of military women in the country’s prisons.

Accused of terrorism

The Israeli newspaperYediot Aharonot‘ has posted that the Palestinian prisoner is a member of Al-Fatah convicted of an attack in which Israelis died in central Israel. Apparently, the inmate was using a cell phone for keep contact with several guards and send them photos.

A security guard was questioned on Thursday which revealed that four guards more maintained relations with the prisoner. All five were apparently completing their two-year mandatory military service.

A lawyer for the security guard has assured that the prisoner threatened his client to maintain non-consensual relationships, but Police sources have pointed out that there is evidence that the relationships were consented to. The prisoner was transferred to an isolation wing on Friday.
