Tesla China Releases Minor Update to Model Y Crossover in China

Tesla China has recently released a minor update to its Model Y crossover in China, featuring several small but significant changes to its exterior and interior. This update allows Tesla China to kick off the fourth quarter on a strong note.

The base Model Y from Giga Shanghai now boasts a slightly faster 0-100 km/h time of 5.9 seconds, as seen on the vehicle’s order page in the updated Model Y configurator. Additionally, the base Gemini Wheels are now painted black, enhancing their sleek and attractive appearance.

One notable change in the interior is the inclusion of ambient lighting in the form of an LED strip that spans the dashboard. Moreover, the iconic wood trim on the black interior Model Y dash has been replaced. Despite these updates, the price of the base Model Y in China remains unchanged at RMB 263,900 ($36,100).

It is evident that Tesla China’s recent update to the Model Y aims to keep the sales of its best-selling all-electric crossover strong in the coming future. With the introduction of the Model 3 Highland, the Model Y’s design has appeared somewhat outdated. However, this minor update makes the vehicle more compelling to potential customers.

It should be noted that this recent update is likely not the highly-anticipated “Project Juniper” update to the Model Y, which has been mentioned in previous reports. Details about “Project Juniper” remain scarce, but it is expected to implement the exterior and interior changes from the Model 3 Highland to the all-electric crossover. Therefore, this recent update in China can be considered a minor update bridging the current Model Y and “Project Juniper.”

Some details about this minor Model Y refresh stand out. The base Model Y’s 0-100 km/h time has dropped to 5.9 seconds, making it faster than the base Model 3 Highland, which has a 1-100 km/h time of 6.1 seconds. This is quite intriguing, considering that the Model Y is larger and heavier than the Model 3.

While this update is impressive, it is important to note that it is likely not the major update that enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting. Nonetheless, Tesla China’s dedication to improving and refining its vehicles in the market is commendable.
