“Unfortunately, the number of 10 dead and 60 injured is reported, of which 23 remain hospitalized, two of them with serious injuries,” says the Tamaulipas Public Security Secretariat has indicated on its X account, formerly Twitter.

At the moment, the causes of the accident in which the structure of the building collapsed during the community mass for a baptism are unknown. The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. (9:30 p.m. GMT) and families made up of people of all ages were at the scene. The event was so sudden that there was no time for them to evacuate the place.

The governor of Tamaulipas, Américo Villarreal, has regretted the incident in Ciudad Madero in rescue maneuvers. My solidarity with all the families who have lost their loved ones and with the community due to this unfortunate accident,” says Villarreal.

A video captured by a neighborhood security camera was broadcast on social networks in which the moment in which the ceiling begins to crack and falls into the interior of the church can be seen.

Elements of Civil Protection, the Red Cross, the National Guard as well as firefighters, among others, work at the site. Two cranes are also on site to remove the debris.

Since the event, the atmosphere in the area was one of anguish and concern due to the presence of injured people and the suddenness of the accident.
