Duisburg. An impressive 3,993.20 euros were raised in proceeds and donations at the two-day festival of the Evangelical Resurrection Community Duisburg Süd on the last weekend in September. The money will now benefit people in Ukraine, Syria and Turkey.

Under the motto “Live diversity – share hope – celebrate life!”, the program took visitors to the festival on a “cultural journey around the world” with music and dance and cuisine from many countries. Pastor Rainer Kaspers asked groups from these countries to prepare and sell typical local dishes for the festival. The food needed for this came as donations from the community.

The collapse in cash after the festival now shows that the proceeds are impressive: When the group of the Hüttenheim mosque community sold the food, 1,000 euros were raised, which is now intended for the purchase of living containers for the earthquake victims in Turkey.

The proceeds of 690 euros from the sale of the Syrian Orthodox community’s food are intended to purchase new school supplies for children in Aleppo, which are urgently needed there after the earthquake.

The proceeds of 706 euros from the sale of food from the Russian-Ukrainian community group are intended for church communities in Ukraine that receive and care for internally displaced people.

In addition, a further profit of 1,597.20 euros was achieved through various campaigns and the sale of soup, coffee and cake. It is divided up and goes to the Ukrainian Red Cross and the Action Alliance for Disaster Relief with the keywords “earthquake victims in Syria” and “earthquake victims in Turkey”.

“We can also look forward to a collection of 564.93 euros, which was collected on Sunday in the Thanksgiving family service,” notes Pastor Rainer Kaspers. This sum goes to the “Bread for the World” campaign.

“It was a colorful, musical and happy festival with many highlights,” summarizes Pastor Kaspers and thanks “all those who contributed to the success of the festival through their voluntary work or by donating cakes, but also to the teams from our daycare centers and our church musician.”
