The developers of Modern Warfare 3 have addressed concerns from fans regarding the future of DMZ, stating that the game mode will continue to receive support. However, it seems unlikely that DMZ will be included in the upcoming Warzone experience.

DMZ, inspired by games like Escape from Tarkov, was introduced in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. The PvP and PvE game mode garnered a small but dedicated fan base. Initially, DMZ received regular content updates, but as the life cycle of Modern Warfare 2 came to an end, these updates became scarce.

Alongside a list of bugs and a lack of substantial updates, the popularity of DMZ began to decline, leading some community members to fear the worst for the game mode. Streamer Westie even went as far as to call the mode “chalked” after a recent update. Fans grew concerned that DMZ would be abandoned.

Initially, there was no mention of DMZ from Sledgehammer Games, the lead studio for Modern Warfare 3, leading fans to speculate that the mode would be scrapped. However, the developers have now assured players that DMZ will still receive support.

On October 2, CharlieIntel reported that Activision stated, “DMZ Beta will continue to be supported within Modern Warfare 2 Warzone experiences — playable on the maps it already is available, but it looks like it won’t be part of MW3 Warzone.”

This news may be a bittersweet revelation for fans. While DMZ will still receive updates, these additions will be limited to existing maps such as Al Mazrah, Ashika Island, and Vondel. There will be no expansion on the new Warzone map.

Sledgehammer Games has also announced that no new information about DMZ will be revealed during the COD Next MW3 event on October 5. With an uncertain future, fans of DMZ and Warzone’s extraction shooter will likely harbor reservations.

Despite these uncertainties, fans can find solace in the fact that their beloved game mode is here to stay for the foreseeable future.
