The United States Supreme Court on Monday refused to study a case that requested that former President Donald Trump (2017-2021) could not be a candidate again due to his alleged responsibility in the 2021 assault on the Capitol.

The case was brought by John Anthony Castro, an unknown Republican presidential hopeful, who sued Trump earlier this year based on a provision of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution.

It states that any American official who swears an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States is disqualified from holding future office if “participated in an insurrection or rebellion or has provided assistance to insurrectionists.”

The Supreme Court decided not to accept the challenge and dismissed the case without any comment or recorded vote, CNN reported.

This case is independent of other similar challenges against Trump in the states of Minnesota and Colorado, whose trials are scheduled for later this year.

The decision of the highest court is known on the day that the civil trial against him for fraud that continued for years in the Trump Organization began, a case promoted by the New York State Prosecutor’s Office.

The former president appeared at the New York court, amidst strong security, and told the media that it was a “continuation of the witch hunt” against him.

This civil lawsuit is not related to the four criminal proceedings facing the first former president in the history of the United States who has been indicted.

In Georgia he faces a case for alleged interference in the 2020 elections; in New York, the process for irregular payments he made during the 2016 campaign to silence porn actress Stormy Daniels for a “affair” that they had in the past.

In Florida he faces justice for having taken classified papers to his mansion in Mar-a-Lago when he left the White House in January 2021 and, finally, he must respond in Washington to the assault on the Capitol in 2021, in which his Supporters tried to disrupt the legislative process to certify Joe Biden’s 2020 victory
