After two months of rising, unemployment closes September with an almost imperceptible drop. In fact, it is the highest decline in membership recorded throughout Catalonia, doubling those of Lleida and Tarragona (which lose 6,249 and 5,337 members) and which contrasts with Barcelona, where employment was created here during September (because 35,060 affiliates have been gained).

The one of the whole summer

Right now in the Girona counties there are 363,867 members. Compared to September 2022, they are 2.76% more (specifically, 9,781). However, if this data is compared to previous months, it practically equals that of May 2023 (when there were 360,143 members in the demarcation). That is to say, that only during September, all that employment that had been created in the summer months has been destroyed.

Finally, the ministry’s data also includes the evolution of contracts. During September, 20,749 were registered in the demarcation. Compared to August, they are 10.87% more; specifically, 2,085. However, compared to last year, they are fewer. Because if they are contrasted with those of September 2022, then 15.89% more were signed.

Out of all this overall, the sector that concentrates the most contracts during September is that of services (14,270). And by typology, the indefinite and the temporary are distributed almost equally (with 10,529 and 10,220, respectively).
