Sky Studios and Cattleya – part of ITV Studios – are working on the prequels of two of their most iconic and representative series, in Italy and internationally: Romanzo Criminale and Gomorrah, two sagas, two real brands that wrote some of the pages most exciting and successful of Italian serials.
The origin story of Romanzo Criminale – The series will focus on the years preceding the rise of the Banda della Magliana: a story of Roman crime that takes place before the events told in the two seasons of the series but which is linked to its characters.
Also on board the project for the prequel is the “father” of the historical series Giancarlo De Cataldo, magistrate, author of the novel of the same name (published by Einaudi) from which the mother series is based as well as the series subject.
The most international of the Italian TV series, Gomorrah, also returns, sold in over 190 territories around the world. Ranked fifth in the New York Times ranking of the most important non-American TV series of the 2010-2020 decade, the Sky Original series inspired by Roberto Saviano’s bestseller will continue its journey on a global scale with a prequel that will tell the story of the criminal rise of boss Pietro Savastano, from when he was just a street boy to become the most important and ruthless boss in Naples. Once again, Leonardo Fasoli and Maddalena Ravagli wrote the project.
