Berlin still has a lot to do. So better get started!

by time news

BerlinIn the past few years and months, the pandemic has left a lot behind. Berlin has some catching up to do. And of course new tasks have also been added. Numerous sectors such as the metal and vehicle industry have come under pressure due to the consequences of the pandemic and severely disrupted supply chains. Other areas of the economy, such as the hotel and catering industry, are threatened in their very existence. And of course: Berlin too has to be more climate-friendly and the economy decarbonised. It is important to provide the right impetus to quickly get the affected industries back on their feet so that they can still invest after the pandemic.

Berlin brings up the rear when it comes to digitized government services

What the business associations Berlin-Brandenburg (UVB) presented on Wednesday falls into the category of “homework”: Berlin is at the bottom nationwide when it comes to digitized government services. 344 services are digital in North Rhine-Westphalia. In Berlin there are only 77. That slows the economy of the capital and needs to be addressed urgently.

The UVB also drew attention to the city’s bridges – and there is homework to be done here too. In addition to the long-term worries Rudolf-Wissel-Brücke and the Dreieck radio tower, which not only cost the citizens, but also the delivery traffic, nerves and time, 45 bridges are in poor condition.

All of this can only mean one thing: get started and neither postpone homework nor future tasks on the back burner. Decarbonization and digitization can wait just as long as the ailing bridges and dusty authorities: not a second.
