Lower Rhine/Togo. Two endurance runners from Duisburg are on the road in November: Father Tobias (Hamborn Abbey) and the journalist David Bieber are running for children in Togo.

The man has staying power – David Bieber is a long-distance runner, German-French journalist and lecturer – and wrote for the Funke Media Group for a few years and also for the Niederrhein editorial team as a trainee. The Duisburg native has now traveled extensively in his career – and he continues to run and run for a good cause. Now he is supporting a project that another endurance runner from Duisburg launched and also looks after: “Poor Children in Togo”, initiated by the “Marathon Father”. Father Tobias from Hamborn Abbey. Bieber’s journalistic focus is sometimes on reporting on what is happening in African countries – no wonder that he also wants to help on site.

David Bieber will be back in November Togo travel (2nd to 11th) and collect money with a charity run to finance two kindergartens in order to sustainably improve educational opportunities for children. The passionate long-distance runner wants to do this in the Atacora mountain range Run a marathon with Father Tobias – the Papillon Trail Marathon – with an altitude of 1200 meters. He would like donations for every kilometer run Duisburg project “LebensWert GmbH” collect. Two kindergartens near the city of Kpalimé are set to benefit from this. “The children should have the chance to learn French, the official language there, so that they can follow lessons at school. “In addition, all children receive their school uniform, knapsacks and notebooks for the start of school and also school fees for families who cannot afford it, which is 1.50 to 2.50 euros per school year,” says David Bieber.

Togo, with its capital Lomé, was formerly a German colony. According to the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the African country is one of the lowest-income countries in the world. In its “Vision Togo 2030,” the Togolese government has set itself the goal of becoming a middle-income country by 2030, said Bieber. “While it is true that the government has made major reform efforts in recent years, this can only be a modest beginning.”

Bieber’s appeal: “Actively help to sustainably improve the living conditions and learning conditions for almost a hundred children in Kpalimé. Because only a good education creates a future and financial independence.”

David Bieber is happy to answer donation options, information and more by email. Send them to [email protected]
