The motorcycle and light vehicle sector grew by 6.7% in September after registering 19,042 units, while in the accumulated of the first nine months of the year, sales grew by 11.4%, up to 172,861 units, according to data from the National Association of Companies in the Two Wheel Sector (Anesdor).
In fact, despite the fact that in September of this year there was one less working day than in 2022, daily enrollment has grown by 11.8%.
However, the employers’ association has pointed out that these data do not show “100% the reality of September”, due to the incidents in the Spanish Vehicle Registry of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) during the last days of the end of the month.
For José María Riaño, general secretary of ANESDOR «despite having one less working day and the incidents in the Spanish Vehicle Registry, the data for September have been very positive and place us at a cumulative 11.4%, confirming the solid growing trend of the motorcycle and light vehicles that are increasingly popular.
By market, the motorcycle market grew by 8.4% in September, with 17,072 units sold. The user continues to trust the ‘scooter’ (+12.9%) as an ideal mobility tool in cities, with 9,745 registered units, while leisure shows “good figures”, both in the road segment (6,575 units; +14.7%) and in the field (740 units; +19.2%).
However, mopeds have experienced a decrease of 11.8% in September, with 1,111 units registered. By channel, private has been the one that has fallen the least, 10.3%, followed by business (-20.4%) and rental (-33.3%).
Likewise, tricycles rose 23.3%, with 302 units registered, while the market for light and heavy quadricycles closed the ninth month of the year with falls of 9.9% (245 units) and 5.2% ( 312 registrations), respectively. At a regional level, the territories with the greatest growth were the Basque Country (45.6%), the Canary Islands (45.5%) and the whole of Ceuta and Melilla (20.4%).
