The Ministry of Economy and Finance displayed its mobilization for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games on Thursday during an event in Bercy.
Unsurprisingly, Bercy wants to be “the guarantor of the good performance of the Games budget”4.4 billion euros for the organization and 3.7 billion in investments in infrastructure.
But other services of the ministry will also be at work to “protect the French, visitors and consumers” and fight against various frauds and trafficking.
“Through their sovereign powers as guarantors of economic public order, Bercy agents will be at the heart of the fight against fraud, deceptive commercial practices which can emerge on this occasion, and the securing of the flow of goods and people”underline the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire and his four delegated ministers, quoted in a press kit.
The customs and indirect rights department (DGDDI) must mobilize 7,000 of its 17,000 agents for the Olympics, responsible in particular for importing delegation equipment and combating the contribution of objects associated with the Games.
The General Directorate for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF), with 900 of the 3,000 agents responsible for combating fraud, will have to ensure the protection of consumer and tourist purchases and the loyalty of customers. transport, hotel and catering services. Agents mobilized within the DGCCRF must also inform visitors of their rights, including in English.
The National Frequency Agency (ANFR), with 300 agents and reinforcements, will have to ensure the proper functioning of frequency tools, with 4 billion viewers expected.
Finally, Tracfin, the ministry’s intelligence service, mobilizes 200 agents to identify terrorist financing threats and monitor clandestine financial flows linked to tourist property rentals or the circulation of illicit substances (such as doping products and narcotics). .
The ministry’s services, and in particular the General Directorate of Enterprises (DGE), intend to take advantage of the Games to “valorize and promote” the sports sector, which has 128,000 companies in France with a turnover of 71 billion euros, according to Bercy.
