Ukraine settles scores with those who cooperated with the Russians in the occupied areas
Ukrainian authorities are rushing to bring to justice those citizens of the liberated areas of the country who, out of sympathy, opportunism, necessity or fear, agreed to cooperate or work with the authority imposed by Russia while their towns and cities were occupied.
According to data collected by the latest report of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on human rights violations in the war in Ukraine, until July 31, the Ukrainian Prosecutor’s Office had opened nearly 8,000 cases for collaboration or cooperation with the “aggressor state.”
“Almost all” of the defendants tried, the report says, have been found guilty by the courts, with many more cases to come if Kiev fulfills its goal of recovering the territories that Russia continues to occupy on Ukrainian territory.
