Dr. Qi Chengli, the director of the Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases at the Institute of Virology in Wuhan, revealed that his research team has discovered over 20 new strains of bat coronaviruses. The team has identified a high risk that these viruses could cross over to humans, potentially leading to another outbreak similar to the SARS coronavirus that originated in horseshoe bats in China’s Yunnan province.
