China Warns of Possible Outbreak as New Bat Coronaviruses Discovered

In an alarming announcement, China has warned the world to prepare for the potential spread of new bat coronaviruses. Dr. Qi Chengli, the director of the Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases at the Institute of Virology in Wuhan, revealed that his research team has discovered over 20 new strains of bat coronaviruses. The team has identified a high risk that these viruses could cross over to humans, potentially leading to another outbreak similar to the SARS coronavirus that originated in horseshoe bats in China’s Yunnan province.
Dr. Qi Chengli and his colleagues have emphasized the “very high” chance of an outbreak occurring in the future. These findings serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing global threat posed by emerging infectious diseases.
