From October 25 to December 15, the 2024 agricultural production contracting process was framed by organizations and entities. At the same time, the training of the boards of directors of agricultural cooperatives in Caimito is advancing, in pursuit of an accurate diagnosis of the needs of productive development.

Meanwhile, work is being done in an accelerated manner and progress is already being seen in agrarian processes: delivery of land as usufruct by Decree Law 358, and in inheritance procedures, according to Ariel Saenz de la Torre Sanamé, member of the municipal bureau of the Party, which serves the agri-food sphere.

Three companies operate in the agricultural system in Caimito: Habana Libre, Cítricos Ceiba and Los Naranjos, these last two were subordinate until two years ago. months to the national business group, while now they are subordinated to the provincial delegation that allows and makes decision-making viable from a more territorial level and closer to the interests of this branch.

There are 1,147 workers in the Caimita agri-food sector, plus 1,114 associated with different productions: 11 Credit and Service Cooperatives, two Basic Cooperative Production Units, and one Agricultural Production Cooperative.

Despite the complexities in the acquisition of fertilizers, fuels, lubricants for machinery, pesticides… and their consequent impact on land preparation cycles, the recently concluded spring campaign was more than accomplished, thanks to the effortful response of the producers. Reason for joy this October 3, 60 years after the Second Agrarian Reform Law was enacted, the date chosen in the Agreement of the 2nd National Agricultural Congress to commemorate the day of the sector.

Apart from the pork and poultry branches that operate in the municipality, livestock farming stands out, particularly the Habana Libre company, which is constant in the delivery of agreed milk, for a municipal production plan that exceeds 1,300,000 liters of fluid.

For its part, Los Naranjos has been affected for objective reasons, regardless of the management of the mass and the treatment of the animals. Since there is no milk substitute or substitute to maintain the animals, a portion of normal milk has had to be available for this purpose, explained Saenz de la Torre Sanamé.

In general, the promotion of agro-commercial fairs in the municipality every Sunday has generated a positive state of opinion in the population, spaces in which the participation of new forms of management stands out: MSMEs and self-employed workers.
