Very emotional night at l’Escala remembering the beginnings of the CER

Nineteen people. Nineteen founders. Lluís Vilabrú, Joseph Bruguera, Jesus Puig, Joseph Callol, Miquel Colomeda, Francis Torrent, Josep Soles, Josep Maria Albertí, Francis Callol, Ramon Cortel, Peter Soles, Josep Galceran, Valeri Ballester, Albert Puig, Santi Juan, Francis Bofill, Martí Solés, Francis Moner i Frederic Ballester. They were the ones in charge, in 1967, of giving the start to the CER L’Escala, a club created, in the first instance, only for table tennis, but which today encompasses so many anecdotes, experiences and stories, that it is already part of of all the inhabitants of the municipality. Friday was the turn to pay emotional tribute to the founders who are still alive and to remember those who are no longer there.

There was also time to present the new stage, the current one. It was a nod to the past, while the future is contemplated with excitement and the present beats hard. Parliaments, hugs, laughter, delivery of commemorative plaques. It was a great night.

“Nowadays, it can be said that the CER L’Escala is an entity of entities, because under its umbrella are fourteen sections of different sporting and cultural activities. It is the only sport in the population that competes in the highest national division”, he confesses Joan Farràs. They are also a Europa.

“We use a quote that says ‘sometimes you don’t know the value of what you’ve done until it becomes a memory'”, concludes Farràs, one of the many people who contributes to making the entity, an increasingly large and rooted entity in its place of origin.
