Watan Al-Youm: The media spokesman for the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, Omar Salama, denied the existence of any dams affiliated with the Ministry of Water and Irrigation in the Al-Quwaira region of Aqaba Governorate.
Salama added that the Al-Quwaira area includes earthen excavations to collect water and utilize rainwater for agricultural purposes, and it only stores (10-20) thousand cubic meters of water, depending on the capacity of each excavation.
Salama said that the responsibility for these excavations belongs to the Ministry of Agriculture, which is directly responsible for them, and the Ministry of Water and Irrigation has nothing to do with them, noting that the Ministry of Water contacted Agriculture to inspect them, and it was found that they do not pose a danger to citizens.
According to Al-Riyati, MP Al-Riyati had sent a letter to Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh, which included an appeal from the people of Al-Quweira about their fear of “the collapse of a dam in their area and the occurrence of a humanitarian catastrophe.”
