Awning should provide shade
Elementary school in Oldendorf is pleased about support/subsidy from the local council
Oldendorf (gok). As part of the new construction of the fire station in the Saaletal, the schoolyard of the elementary school in the Saaletal was also redesigned a long time ago. Some trees also had to go, which means there are now only a few shade areas in the summer.
“The children play in the blazing sun at lunchtime and afternoon or have to play indoors to be protected from the strong sunlight. The sandbox is particularly popular in all-day care in summer. This is how the idea came about to install another awning directly above the sandpit,” explains primary school principal Maike Krengel.
The new sun sail could now be financed through the support association. The support association still had a remaining amount that arose from the big sponsorship run before Corona. In order to finance the total expenditure of 5,355 euros, additional donations were collected at the school summer festival before the summer holidays. The Oldendorf local council, which was invited to the school festival and was represented by local mayor Eckhard Füllberg and his deputy Heiko Wöhler (both CDU), also supported the project with a generous donation of 700 euros, which also covered the final costs.
“The school community Schule im Saaletal and the school support association would like to thank the Oldendorf local council and all sponsors as well as the company that made it possible for us to install the second sun sail,” says Krengel happily. After the summer holidays, the primary school children have already spent a few hours of sunshine under the new, yellow awning in the sandpit.
