The Port Authority of Huelva (Spain) has highlighted its commitment to the fruit and vegetable sector at the Fruit Attraction fair, an event in which it has mentioned the importance of port infrastructure for the province’s agri-food sector and its accessible environment.
In fact, port officials have highlighted the specialized services offered by the Andalusian enclave, highlighting logistics and connectivity with different important destinations, such as northern Europe, the Canary Islands, Morocco and the Mediterranean area.
During the meeting, it was highlighted that thanks to the location of the port, European markets such as France, the United Kingdom and Germany can be reached by sea in three days, thus highlighting it as the perfect route for agri-food exports.
Another aspect mentioned is that among its future plans is intermodality, with which it aims to promote maritime and rail transport as a complement to the road.
In this way, a “high maritime speed” is created and transforms the port of Huelva into a multimodal logistics node for cold chains. An example of this is the Sustainable Cold Logistics Hub, located on the south dock, which uses the cold produced during the regasification of Liquefied Natural Gas, significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
It is worth mentioning that those responsible for the port have stressed their commitment to continue allocating resources to the development of the south dock, where the intermodal platform is located, with the aim of promoting innovative initiatives in cooperation with private sector companies. This plan includes the expansion of said dock and the creation of a double ro-ro ramp, with the purpose of attracting new shipping companies and providing additional export opportunities for fresh agricultural products.
On the other hand, the Port of Huelva is in the process of modernizing lighting installations, with the aim of raising the quality of service, improving efficiency in energy consumption and optimizing lighting control through its integration into the current management system.
