Forecast for the period 6 – 12 October 2023

Dragomir Atanasov, agrometeorologist at NIMH

During the next seven-day period, agro-meteorological conditions will be characterized by relatively dry weather with temperatures up to and above climatic norms.

During the period, the late varieties of apples and pears and the late wine varieties of grapes will reach consumption and technological maturity.

The absence of precipitation of economic importance from the beginning of autumn and the depletion of soil moisture reserves in the upper layers will hinder the quality of tillage and delay the germination and initial development of the sown autumn crops with winter cereals and oilseed rape. During the period, the agrotechnical deadline for sowing wheat in the hilly fields and the Pre-Balkan area of Northern Bulgaria expires. The warm weather is a prerequisite for increasing the density and harmful activity of the common vole in alfalfa fields, which necessitates a survey of the crops.

On most days of the period, conditions will allow late hybrid corn and sunflower to be harvested.

At the end of the period, frost conditions and risk of damage to the unharvested vegetable crop from the late production are predicted in the high fields and hollows.
